Kiehl’s Product Review

I’ve been using these products for almost a month now, since July 17, and I’m ready to drop a product review on them.

But here are some things you need to know about me first:

  1. I have an extremely oily skin. My face usually starts to shimmer 10 minutes after I apply my makeup.
  2. I have acne-prone and sensitive skin. I can easily get pimples from using a dirty makeup brush, from sleeping on a dirty pillowcase, or simply when I wear makeup the entire day. So sleeping with makeup on is a big no-no for me.
  3. I work from home so I rarely go out.
  4. That said, I usually wear makeup only on weekends.
  5. This is not a sponsored post. I’m not yet on that level.

Now I have already tried The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Line and Proactiv, but neither is that effective on me. In fact, the tea tree products only worsened the appearance of my acnes. Yikes. You can click the link to read my reviews.

But these Kiehl’s products… They’re heaven sent, really.

What can I say? They work, period.

I didn’t get more pimples when I stopped using them while I was recovering from dengue (there’s no need for a beauty routine when you’re sick, is there?), it kept acnes at bay, and even while PMSing, I get minimal pimples, which aren’t massive and gross unlike the usual.

It’s hard for me to treat my face since I’m acne-prone so the previous pimples haven’t completely healed yet but there are already new ones popping out. And I never get just one pimple. It’s usually a congregation. LOL.

When I went to Kiehl’s, my heart was set on the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, but the attendant (I don’t know what she’s called – skin specialist?) said that I can’t use it yet since I still have fresh pimples on my face so I need to get rid of those first before removing the dark spots, which I have plenty of.

Now you may wonder why I got different products from different lines. It’s because these are the products I tried when I visited Kiehl’s.

The Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser is a minty facial cleanser. It has this powerful eucalyptus smell but nothing that you can’t stand. Since I’m oily, I wash my face twice. To preserve this cleanser, I usually use Celeteque first to rid of the oil and dirt and then the Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser for some deep cleaning.

When I first tried the Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner, it smelled really really good. Somehow, the smell disappeared when I bought a bottle of it. Huh. The guy who attended to me said that it smelled good because of the petals that you could actually take out from the bottle and lay on parts of your face to treat your pimples faster or if you think you need more moisturizing.

Here’s a tip: cotton absorbs a lot of product. To be economical, use just your hands when applying moisturizer. You will get to save 50% of the product. This is a trick I learned from my mom. Because otherwise, half of the product you intend to apply on your face would only be absorbed by the cotton swab. Sayang.

Now about the Blue Herbal Moisturizer, it’s not sticky like other moisturizers and it doesn’t make your face oilier than it already is (assuming that you have an oily skin). In fact, it gives this matte finish so it contains your sebum. It’s green in color so it’s unique from your typical moisturizer.

You don’t need a lot of these products. A little goes a long way. I’ve been using these for almost a month now and so far I’ve used up about 10-20% from each bottle. These would probably last me a few months. Kiehl’s might be more expensive than other facial skin care products, but it’s worth the hype. Take it from a girl who has grown tired of jumping from one skin care to the next, only more disappointed than the last time.

The lady at the counter gave me and my mom several samples and here’s mine. It’s actually pretty good, but I consumed it faster than I wanted to because I applied it twice a day, as per the instructions. It feels like putting oatmeal on your face but it didn’t stink or anything. When I use this, I stay away from the moisturizer since it doesn’t make sense to use both at the same time. It’s either you moisturize or you treat your face.

If you ever plan to use these products or have tried any from Kiehl’s, let me know. 🙂 I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. So far, this is the only brand that suits my skin well. It prevents me from breaking out, it minimizes my pores, and the products smell good, too.

Now time to save up for my second batch..
