The gym is my safe haven. It’s where I go when I have too many toxic thoughts floating in my head. It’s where I go when I doubt myself but persevere to prove those doubts wrong.  The gym is my happy place, suffice to say. Likewise, I find joy in being an inspiration for others. I find satisfaction in people’s comments that I helped them, that I continue to inspire them, that they started working out because of me. Me. Like, for real?

When I started working out some years back, when I was in 3rd-year college, specifically, I didn’t see myself being a “fitspiration” to anybody. Good Lord, I was so far from that. A few years after, I would look at my bodybuilder inspirations and silently think to myself, “I wonder how it feels to be in their position.” I even had this crazy idea  of entering a bodybuilding contest to prove that I can do it, that I’m stronger and more capable than I think.

Following my recent blog posts on  5 gym equipment you should invest in, and alternative gym equipment for your home workout, I’m publishing a relevant topic. This time, let’s focus on gym gear, clothes, and accessories. I don’t want to leave you hanging so call this a 3-part blog post if you may, but it’s also relatively important to be mindful of what you wear in the gym.  I actually wrote a snippet about this a year ago because I can’t stress enough the importance of wearing proper attire. If not for the dress code, at least do it to allow more mobility and for you to perform at your best.

There’s this guy in the gym that I’ve seen wearing capri pants too many times, and every time, I just wanna walk to him and ask if he can change.

Over the past week, I’ve been trying my hands on boxing – literally.  Kickboxing was something that I incorporated into my workout program some years ago because I loved the hype it brought me every time. It was the perfect mix of cardio and strength training for me. Although it didn’t really make me lift weights, it was enough to test my endurance and fitness. Kickboxing makes me pant like crazy especially if it’s a workout video by Jillian Michaels!  I never really thought I’d give boxing a shot until now. Anyway, kickboxing is different from boxing.

On the other hand, my boyfriend is a huge fan of boxing. He even pays for subscriptions when there are boxing and MMA fights on live TV. He does this instead of going to a restaurant or pub for pay-per-view watches. Once or twice I’ve gone over to his house just to watch those fights with him.  He was the one to try boxing first. We were supposed to go together, but I had to say no that time because my family and I had a group passport application appointment (thinking of blogging about this – let me know if you’re interested). I got done early so I went to the gym (Elorde, Starmall branch) to watch him on his first boxing session.

Right then and there, I knew I just had to try it myself.

Previously, I talked about 5  gym equipment you should invest in for your home workouts. It’s a lengthy list, but I sure hope you learned something from it! If you haven’t read it yet, you can check it out here. Now you might be looking at it and shaking your head. “No, that’s not what I really need. Any other  options for me?”  Well, you’re in luck because I do.

While those are already the most basic gym equipment you can get, you still might not be satisfied. I take the challenge.

While I know you can always work out at home, I know there are also limits to buying gym equipment. Let me write down the reasons I can think of right now:

  1. Tight budget (some equipment can be expensive, true)
  2. Can’t find the time yet (I can’t buy until this weekend, but I want to workout, so what can I use NOW?)
  3. Can’t find the right weight for you (some stores sell a limited number of weights and in weird weight intervals)

If you have any of these reasons right now, then hold on, because there’s still a way. This might sound corny but you can actually use household things to do your workout. “No way!”  Uhm, actually it’s a yes way! So, yeah, let me count the ways.

If you follow me on my social media accounts, you’ve probably already noticed that I’m currently on a workout hype. My behavior lies on both ends of the spectrum – on either extremes.  It’s either a NO or GO for me. Sometimes I get really down and not workout for weeks. But there are days that I live and breathe working out. Right now, I’m in the second mode. I always share my workouts on my social media accounts because I know how it feels to be so clueless about exercises. I once started that way, too, even ignoring the dumbbells as much as I could for fear of looking muscular because then I didn’t know better (more on this later). I’m also not a very secretive person. In fact, I’d like to believe I’m the complete opposite. I like sharing stuff with others because.. well, I’m not sure why, but it’s in my nature.

Anyway, I’ve already posted several workout programs on my blog yet I never focus too much on equipment. And it’s so odd that I never realized this until Rae, a fellow blogger and friend, pointed it out to me.  I mean, really, Bae? You blog about exercises but not what you actually use when exercising?

So to make up for that, I’m writing this blog post! *throws confetti*

Disclaimer: Let’s keep this on a personal level since I know most of my readers are not extreme gym goers.  In fact, let’s tackle equipment that you can use at home.  Now, you’ll have one less excuse for ditching that “Home Workout” video on YouTube. 😉

February 11, Saturday

Today, my family and I woke up at 6 am to have our blood extracted for a series of tests. We were running a bit late so we arrived at the clinic at around 7:30 am. We had to wait for about 30 minutes until our blood was extracted. I’m not really that afraid of needles so I’ve been used to having vaccines since I was little, but Jec’s fear of needles somehow rubbed off on me. I was in complete denial until my name was called.
