Us Filipinos love buffets for a good number of reasons like bonding with loved ones over food, getting the most of what we paid for, and trying out different dishes.

DANS Restobar | Shaw Boulevard Mandaluyong City | Restaurant and Food Review | The Bae Blogs by Bae Milanes

DANS Restobar is an isolated restaurant and bar in the stretch of Shaw Boulevard that you’d never expect to love but will. It’s best to go there via car but if you’re commuting, it’s a walkable distance from Starmall. From the pictures, it looks like a huge bar that can house a good capacity of customers, but in the flesh, it’s more intimate and compressed – not that it’s an issue, though!

A LITTLE BACKGROUND STORY

Jec and I try to make it a point to see each other and go out every weekend. His off days land on a Sunday and a Monday (night shift), so for me that’s Sunday afternoon. We rarely go out on a Monday because I’m already working by then while his shift starts on a Tuesday evening so he still has a day and a half to rest. The other day, however, we went out just because we didn’t see each other the day prior. Last Saturday, I went out with my family, and last Sunday, he went out with a friend. It was supposed to be a group bike ride, but it ended up just being the two of them (what a date, I’m jealous).

Anyway, so we went to Mandaluyong and had a little bit of a food trip there. Ever since he brought me to Paraiso (street), I kept bugging him to bring me back. It’s a street known for having competing stalls of street food such as barbecue, isaw, chicharong bulaklak, cheese sticks, chicken balls, and all those meat internals we’re not supposed to eat but we enjoy anyway.

I personally shouldn’t have any of those since I have amoebiases and you can’t really trust those kinds of food with cleanliness. However, I was really craving for it, and in my entire existence, it was only my third time to eat street foods like that, so cut me some slack. 😛 Anyway, it was just to fill out tummies with a little bit of food, but I was still game for a proper dinner. Earlier when we met, Jec mentioned this newly established food park in Mandaluyong. I haven’t been there yet and I haven’t seen it before, so I was fine with anything. Bottomline: I just wanted to eat.

So we went there and let’s say it wasn’t what I was expecting at all.

Hello, I’m polishing this post as I sit on the couch of the cafĂ©, hoping I would get a better feel of the place. It’s currently 1:27 pm I walked from our house, so it was insanely hot outside. I can say their AC unit is ??! Less than five minutes in and I can already feel my body cooling down.

Last week, I started feeling the itch to work in a coffee shop. The urge was so strong that I actually Googled a bunch of Zomato listicles online. I haven’t worked in a coffee shop in a while and kind of miss the feeling. I can’t exactly say I’m more productive when I work in a coffee shop (LOL), but I love that it takes me away from our house and I can actually work with others around me. There’s something inspiring about seeing other people hustle whether it be law students going through their readings or entrepreneurs meeting for potential business.

There’s this newly relocated Starbucks in Robinsons Magnolia, but I didn’t want to risk going there without them actually having wifi (and an available outlet). The CBTL branch is too dark and hot for me. I mean, it’s literally hot that I sweat there especially when it starts getting packed. I saw this cool “bike shop and cafĂ©” in Mandaluyong, but it’s not commute-friendly. Long story short, I decided to go back to this restaurant/cafĂ© I’ve been to twice. I’ve been there just to grab some drinks. I didn’t really mind the place before, so this time, I was ready to observe every nook and corner.

I know I’m a few days late, but it’s better late than never, right? It took me a while to decide if I want to publish this blog post or not because I only took a few and low-quality photos. But, at the end of the day, I decided to share with you all how Jec and I’s Valentine’s Day went because 1) I found a hidden gem in Mandaluyong that you might like and 2) I really enjoyed our date despite the mishaps. Yes, there were flaws!

We had our date on February 13th since it was also his day off work. Anyway, this is how our Valentine’s Day went.

Do you ever have that one particular restaurant that you’ve always gone to ever since you were a kid? Well for my family, it has always been Muang Thai. I can’t exactly recall when my mom’s fascination for that restaurant started, but ever since I can remember, we would even go out of our place to eat there. Of course, it’s not your authentic Thai restaurant – it already has a Filipino fusion in it – but their food tastes delicious and which I’ve not yet tasted in other restaurants.

This is not a food review. I simply want to share my thoughts on Muang Thai because I love that restaurant and because we recently dined there. Ready for some Thai goodness? Then, keep reading!
